Thanks for the kind words.
Pinky and I couldn't find a bake proof baby to put in the cake, hehehe. But, yes, traditionally, there should be a baby in the cake or put under the cake.
While I was reading up on the history, I was surprised at how many different cultures it spanned, and the different subtleties for each culture. This one was definitely in the tradition of New Orleans Mardis Gras.
Thanks Again,
Kappy

OMG! As soon as I saw that thumbnail, I was like AHHHHH KING CAKE!!!! I was born in New Orleans and lived in MS most of my life until a couple years ago. I haven't had King Cake since we moved away. My favorite was from Paul's Pastry, a little bakery that's based in Picayune, MS and is famous for King Cakes. They had tons of different fillings. Cream cheese, blueberry and cream cheese, strawberry and cream cheese, cinnamon and cream cheese, praline cream cheese....I could go on, but I'm sure you have things to do. Anyway, yours looks really good and I wish I could have some!!!!

ooooh yum! I grew up eating King Cake, since my family on both sides is Cajun, but I havnen't had any for a LONG time because I live in Ohio now and there's not much Cajun culture.
Just so you know, Paul's Pastry will ship one to you overnight. I'm really seriously considering doing that this year because it just sucks to miss out every year. It's kind of pricey, but hell, it's only once a year. Here's their website:

Good to know, but yeah, it's a little too pricey for me this year.
I wish they had an extra small one! It would only be me and my boyfriend eating it, so I don't really need one that serves 10-15 people, especially when we're both dieting.
Maybe I'll try making one sometime. I like baking.

No baby??? Oh no!
I searched and searched all over town and they were sold out! I got a baby cake topper but it can't be baked into the cake. I suggested he hide it in the cake after it was baked. The slit to insert it into the cake would be hidden under the decorations. Not ideal but it could work I suppose.

Great looking king cake. Now if we could only taste it!!
Also, Mardi Gras isn't the 9th, it is the 24th. FYI.

You are right. Ack! My Bad.
I must have been in denial. I don't think that I wanted to accept that Ash Wednesday(start of fast and abstinence season for some religions) was on February 25th
