Cup o Noodles it is, crafting costs too much!

I was thinking of doing a fabric swap. Not just the normal fabric swap, but everyone takes 1/2 yard of 6 different 44 inch quilting cottons and cuts them into 6 - 2 inch strips. We would each have 5 partners and swap one of each of the 6 strips to each partner and leaving one for yourself. This would give us a total of 36 different strips of fabric to make a scrappy log cabin quilt with.

My math tells me that with 36 - 44" strips we would have a total of 44 yards worth of strips which would make a 36" x 36" quilt. If you wanted to buy more fabric for yourself to make a larger quilt that would be up to you.

We could assign colors to each person or groups of people, or not, I haven't set those details yet. If you have any ideas for that let me know.

Okay first of all, 6-2" strips would be 12 inches which would be 1/3 yard, not 1/2 yard (blame it on my OCD for noticing that).  Grin

This sounds like really fun. I would love to do groups by color theme. Pink Group (my fav), Orange Group, Blue Group, Vintage Group, Etc. Could we be in more than one group? Keep me posted cause I really wanna join when you start it up.

I know but if you wash your fabric first it will shrink down, so that is why I said 1/2 yard. It is your preference though, and we would have to establish if we were going to pre-wash or not.

What if the fabric didn't have to be the same? sending strips of all different things so they all came out differently?

That is why I was think 3 different color fabrics. Or did you mean not having color groups, just 3 random fabrics.

I might be interested, but I'm not sure about the color assignments.  Part of what I like about the idea of the lap quilt swap that's been going on is that you pick your own colors.
