I designed and painted this mural for my sister's new house.

I'm not that good at freehand drawing so I made the design in Illustrator and we then projected it on the wall using an video projector from my boyfriends work.

We traced the outline with a pencil. And then started filling it in. This step actually went a lot faster than I thought. It did however take about 3 coats to get the color right.

omg I love it, do you need another sister?! Wink did you worry about how it was gonna turn out or just go at it and dive right in?  I so wish that I could pull something like this off.  I always second guess myself.

Thanks everybody for the nice comments!

fusbdgt: It was actually a lot easier than I thought. Luckily we we're able to get hold of a projector so we didn't need to use a giant stencil (first idea) to draw my design on the wall.

I love this.  I did a mural in our office a couple months ago - the best part is if you screw up you can always paint over it and start fresh  Grin

Dorion: the walls are covered with fibreglass wallpaper and were then painted over. It's not ideal since the surface wasn't smooth to paint the mural on but because it's an old house and the plaster on the walls wasn't that even, it was the best choice.

I loved it so much I copied.  I'm giving you all the credit though when I show anyone!  yours is so much bigger and better.  I just free hand drew it on the wall and painted.

I was lurking around in search of inspiration for three panels I want to paint - they're hung above my bed, right above a couple of shelves of books. I had something similar in mind but I couldn't decide which way to go - just swirls, silhouettes, or what...  this is perfect inspiration! I love how flowing and un-complicated it looks. I have a few ideas I want to apply to, so it surely won't come up as a total copy... but thanks for the inspiration! (I'll keep my fingers crossed as I have no projector, I'll have to free hand everything and I'm a tad rusty!)

That is awesome! I am planning a project like that for my bedroom, I'm just a little scared of drawing it, so I will have to find a projector! Great job!
