Butterick B4789 twist-front dress
«

I made this dress twice (as you can see), one in a black bamboo jersey and another in a red rayon jersey. I love it, and everyone compliments the dresses regularly. They're very flattering and VERY easy to make. Like, ridiculously easy, IMO.
The one thing I'll say about this pattern is that, even when you cut it to your proportions according to the envelope, it ends up being rather large after sewing. Both times, I ended up taking it in on the sides fairly significantly, like 2 to 3 inches on
both
sides, but your mileage will most definitely vary. Just be aware of that!
Otherwise, I love the pattern and recommend it to everyone, especially the curvaceous among us. I'm a size 14/16 in off-the-rack sizes and a 20 or so in most sewing pattern sizes, and it really is flattering and totally awesome.

That looks AMAZING on you! I'm the same size as you are, so I think I might give this one a go. I haven't actually found any patterns I really liked enough to do (I usually freehand), but this one I might just have to try
Great job!

You look gorgeous! That's a great dress, and I am really tempted to try it too... esp cause I'm about that same size. I can only hope it'd look half so amazing on me... woo hoo!

I think this dress is gorgeous
:]
it is so figure flattering.
It reminds me of like 1940's, when real women had curves and looked extremely sexy
The red one looks so cute :] i might just have to make one for myself!

This particular bamboo jersey came from Vogue Fabrics (
http://www.voguefabricsstore.com/store/product.php?productid=6591&cat=0&page=1
). I love it because it's so incredibly soft. I think Fabric.com also has some black bamboo jersey, but Vogue offers it in more colors (I think red and purple). I highly recommend it as a jersey fabric. It's not only eco-friendly, but it's soft and comfortable to wear. Love it.

Thanks for the link to the pattern. Next time there's a sale at Joannes, I'm getting it.
I wonder how it would look with 3/4 sleeves...

Omg, I own a VERY similar store-bought dress ($40), but it's polyester and have always wanted a more casual version (because it is truly flattering), I am noting the pattern to try in cotton!

It's funny you say that, because I had a similar experience but kind of in the opposite direction. I was looking for a New Year's Eve dress three years ago and found this absolutely gorgeous red twist-front dress at Nordstrom, but it was being sold for $350+ and I couldn't buy it. This was before I learned to sew.
I had been on this hunt for a dress just like it for YEARS when I learned to sew, and when I happened across that pattern, I literally squealed out loud. My boyfriend thought I had lost my mind. I made my red one first (of course), and it was exactly how I wanted it to be after fitting.
Funny how that happens, huh?

There's a sleeved version:

And you don't have to loose weight with either dress -- it's curve friendly!
