So, I don't go out much.  As in, ever.  But we're trying to have a little more adult time nowadays, and I got tickets to the Ska is Dead tour here in Denver when they went on sale in Decembre.  I knew I needed a super cool dress to see the Toasters (one of my favourite bands ever) Mustard Plug and the VooDoo Glow Skulls.  This was going to be the fourth time my husband and I had gone out together without our daughter, and she'll be 4 in April.  So, er, rather a big deal.  Also: SKA!  So I made this dress.  I started it on Friday, and finished it at 5:45 Sunday night- and the show started at 6.
I'm an awful photographer, and i didn't have time to take any pictures before the show, so now its all gross and smelly and wrinkly from being skanked in for 5 hours, but it still looks pretty neat.

The back, with the seriously exaggerated collar:

We had an AMAZING time.  The show was pretty dang great and the bands ran the gamut of the spectrum of ska styles.  One of the openers, Monkey, were awesome, and Deal Gone Bad were pretty good, but I think the Toasters kicked the most ass.  And hey of course VGS and Mustard plug.  Now I just wish there were a rocksteady/first wave ska or swing show around here.

and just for fun, a picture of my cat.

where i like to sing "big cat in a little chair" at him.

So, er, what do you think, Craftsters?  I think if I were to do it again I would make the skirt flare a bit more, it was comfortable and fine for dancing but If I were going to a swing show I would definitely need the added lift on a skirt.

and what a cute fluff-monster!
i sing variations of that song to my cats when they squeeze themselves into less-than-spacious places throughout the house!  Grin

If it had grown up, it would have made a dreadfully ugly child; but it makes rather a handsome pig, I think.

That's a really original take on the basic sailor dress. Great job!

Your dress kicks ass! Also, it's great to meet another fan of the ska. I hope that dress serves you well whilst skanking.

Oh! So cute. I love it! I wish I could sew better to make something like that. I'm going to the Ska is Dead concert her in Portland on Friday! I'm so excited, and glad to hear it was good. I still need to find something to do my skanking in!!!
