Blending Wool Colors with a brush

I layered some red and yellow wool onto a pet "slicker" wire brush and brushed it back and forth with another slicker brush. I now have a clump of wool that is yellow with red streaks and some knots in the wool. I was trying to get an orange color to needle felt with. Tips?

I'm still perfecting my use of the hand carders, so hopefully someone else will have technique tips for you.
But, unlike paint, even if it is carded well the fibers will look "streaky"
Mainly because it is different colored fibers next to each other.
Is this making sense? I'm really sleepy atm...

Do you have a picture of your hand carders? Even though it's not giving a paint like finish I think I may have the wrong product to card my wool. It's making the wool felt into knots in some areas. Though I may no be able to return them since I've used them on wool and it's a hair product. Maybe I can clean then since they still look new.

I use dog brushes to card my wool too. And yes I do get some knots, but its a matter of practice. Here is a pic of my brush when I was blending poodle fur with wool (I have two of these brushes).

I use a set of slicker brushes too! I really want to get a set of big ones. I have little tiny mini poodle sized brushes. lol
I haven't had any problems except the small amounts of fiber but if I sit one night while watching t.v. I can spin the next day.
