Inspired by the Holiday Handmade Crusade, I made some ornaments out of old maps.

I used this great tutorial from Folding Trees.  They're very easy, but a bit time consuming... especially the part where you're waiting for the glue to dry.

I've made 3 so far.  The bigger 2 are made from 4 inch squares and the little one is made from 2 inch squares.

I absolutely love these and I'm thinking that next year I might decorate my tree entirely with recycled map ornaments!  If you know of any similar patterns, I'd love a link. Smiley

These are awesome!  I'm off to check out that link...  this is a perfect project for using up the "pretty paper" I just seem to accumulate!

They look so intricate, no matter how easy you say it is  Wink

I love that you used maps. Very cute.

i just made one of these for a friends birthday at the begininng of the month out of pages from a physics class we had together, but i dropped. i used paper that i cut to be 6 inches square, so it was sort of big, and i used a glustick to put it all together.

awesome work!

Those are lovely and a great way to use some of that variety pack of off-cut origami paper I bought, as well as the odd cuts of gift wrap, etc I have been saving.  Thanks for sharing the link.

I would also be tempted to highlight the centres with a bead or something - it just screams "stick a bead in me" to me!

They are beautiful! And they could be used to decorate year round, not just Christmas.

Aw... thanks! Grin I'm glad you all like them.

Onyxnox: I like your bead idea! They would look pretty with a little sparkle.

Wow!!  Awesome!!

Using maps is a great idea... I think I might try this out with maps of all the places we go to each year.  What a great way to remember the travels of each year!
