I gave a friend of mine a painted tie and he couldn't believe that it had cost me $1/that it was altered.
So we went thrift store shopping and he picked out two other ties that he wanted to try his hand at.
The blowfish is his... which he didn't like too much... so I painted the other for him.

Here is a close up.

His knee is messed up but I can't wait to make more.

Really awesome! You're lucky to have found mostly solid ties!  I can never seem to find any that aren't plaid or striped.

I love your dinosaur! If you told me you bought it like that, you would've had me fooled. Fantastic job, your friend did a nice job too!

Thanks! I'm dying to make more and just found 3 more plain ties at my favorite thrift store.

Rainbowmeow - I literally stalk my favorite thrift stores for these ties.  Sometimes you just get lucky, especially when you find some good stores.  Smiley

Which thrift stores do you usually find ties? I check out Salvation Army and Goodwill.

I have a local store that is called the Women's Hospice Thrift Store and there is a Salvation Army that I frequent.  Those are the best.

Very inspiring!
What paint are you using to paint them? In paint pen form, maybe? Surely not with a brush?

Does it matter what the fiber content of the ties are?

I painted the dino with a toothpick and some white acrylic paint.  It was silly difficult.  I painted this one with a white paint pen...

And no, the fiber content hasn't mattered for me.  The dino was silky and the chocolate brown guitar is completely polyester, I'm sure.
