I just put the finishing touches on a four-part project. These are the four heroes from the Super Nintendo game EarthBound. I wouldn't be too hurt if you haven't heard of it. While its fans are vocal, clever, and good-looking, they are far from legion.

The game is a RPG, so there's lots of (quite funny) text. Early on you're given the choice between five different "flavors" of text boxes: plain, banana, strawberry, peanut, and mint. Checkboard backgrounds are also commonly seen throught the game. So I attempted to honor the spirit of these flavors with four different backgrounds, all in checkboard. I'm quite pleased with the result.

THIS ROCKS!!  As soon as I saw the pic I though "NESS!". lol  They look just like in the game.  I love Earthbound.  It's my favorite game ever.  The flavor thing makes them even better.  I never would've thought of that.  This really made my day.  Did you come up with it on your own, or is there a pattern I can get my hands on somewhere?

I did get the floss list from a cross stitch application, so I have chart files stored locally. They wouldn't be fit to post just yet. One of my hopes for this year is to start making charts available. I want to make them look a little bit nicer than my app spits them out though.

I've posted the color lists on my personal site. I made each image a link to its specific page, which I didn't mention earlier lest someone think I was just trying to drive traffic there.

Thanks for the info!  If you don't mind me copying you, I'd love to make them.  My brothers would love these too.  We were all addicted to the game as kids.  You see so much Mario stuff, but I never thought to make anything with Earthbound.  I've got tons of ideas for Earthbound stuff now.  Thank you so much for sharing this!

Copy away! That's why I go to the trouble of posting the floss list for nearly everything I post. If you want to mix it up a bit, you can use the same colors to do nearly every other pose the characters make[1]. Just grab a sprite sheet from one of the many sprite databases and go to town.

Yes, these are on 14-count plastic canvas. Because they're so simple I only used mosaic stitches. The backgrounds are essentially large scale mosaic stitches too.

[1] With the exception of Ness from the back... assuming you would ever want to do that. He has a backpack and I don't know the colors on that one.
