I found a large wooden hat box in a thrift store for about $4. It had ugly fabric, but my adoring eyes saw past that. I got a magenta dupioni silk dress for about the same cost at the same store; the dress was ugly, but was made up of beautiful fabric. I just tore the old fabric off the box, removed the old glue to expose the wood on the inside (this was the hardest part), and glued the silk on. I covered the bottom with a scrap of green cotton, not seen in photo, and trimmed the lid with a nice wide grosgrain ribbon (it just seemed to cry out for it). Now, I have a sexy box in which to store papers and stuff. Rewarding!

Please tell me what you think; I am new at all this. Grin

So nice! It's amazing how such beautiful fabrics like that seem to often be used on really ugly dresses.  The box looks great.
