I finally finished my first blanket!  This blanket also contains my first granny squares, so it's a blanket full of firsts.   Smiley  even though it turned out a bit differently than i expected, i'm really happy with how it turned out.
since my bed was naked for sheet changing purposes it seemed like the perfect place for pictures.  i didn't mean for it to be the perfect size for my bed, it just turned out that way, so that was a nice surprise.

you can find close ups of all the squares in the crochet-a-long thread here.

i joined it using the flat braid method, which i think looks really nice.  i had to improvise a few times because my squares weren't exactly the same size, but i don't think it's too noticeable.  for the border i just did 2 rows of half-double crochet and a round of single crochet.

my first afghan was the 2008 CAL one, I did it in 5weeks and 3 days, it was completed at 11:45pm on christmas eve, but I must say, my squares don't seem nearly as big as yours! The total size of mine is 5ft square

thanks Kookaloo_Starr!   Smiley

MiLady, a lot of mine weren't exactly 12", some were bigger, some were smaller.  i think most of them look about the same size as yours though.

Mine were all near enough 10", I don't know what I did wrong! But some of mine I had to do extra rows and others I had to do less rows, I used the same thickness wool for the whole thing and the same hook

thanks everyone!
my plan was to use up my scraps making the squares, but i ended up just getting more yarn because i'd see it and be like, "that'd be great in a square!"  haha.
