I got some great pastel tweeds in 80% wool at Jo Ann Fabrics for $1.50 a skein and immediately knew that I needed a big cushy striped sweater.  I knit from the bottom up on 8mm needles and made a severe v neck, used applied Icord to bind the neck opening and make the button loop, and used single crochet around the rest of the neck edge and bottom.    The sleeve are suuuuper long and wonderful for tucking into gloves.

This picture is true to color.

And this one's just creepy.   Tongue

Thanks.  It's just a Zimmerman-esque improvisation.  I had to heavily modify the sleeve decreases/ armpit stitches to get the boat neck to come out right.  Also, if you want to do stripes in the round it's very important that you modify the color change so that you don't get ugly jogs when you start a new stripe.

This explains it far better than I will:

This is super cute.  I wish I were brave enough to try my own pattern for a sweater.

It took me a while to work up to it, but after you do it once it's truly addictive.  I'm a bit manic this month, but I'm working on my 3rd... :x
