My cousin got a new Macbook and asked me to make a laptop bag that she could use to tote it around. Since laptops are fairly heavy, I lined the bag with a padded quilting fabric and sewed three seams close together (instead of one) so that the laptop wouldn't end up on the ground one day  Wink

She wanted to use this damask fabric (it's one of Joel Dewberry's):

On the inside are pockets for pens, a cellphone, laptop charger and usb cords. A quick tip, instead of measuring the width of the pen pockets by hand, you can use a yard stick (or metre stick if you live in Canada like me!) and just trace the width. It's the perfect size for making pen and pencil pockets and will save you from having to measure each one:

I wanted to try out something new for the strap protector. I saw this cool men's messenger bag that had one similar to this. It's an oval that has a couple of layers of padding sewn into it. Then on the top of the oval, I attached a thinner rectangular channel. It's a bit wider than the width of the strap so that it can be moved up and down the strap if she decides to lengthen or shorten it. Oh and if you decide to make one, don't do what I did and sew the rectangular channel down on both sides before adding it to the strap. I had to get out the dreaded seam ripper and pick out the stitches so that I could re-sew it actually on to the strap haha.

This bag is beautiful.  What tag did you use to mark the front of the bag?
