My reality check just BOUNCED!

My brother and I recently began making cakes together after years of me working alone.

This is his first cake that I let him do most of the decorating alone.  He wanted to create a Strawberry Shortcake cake for his daughter's 2nd birthday.  I showed him this cake from another craftster for inspiration ad then let him just go with it.

I did make the strawberry fondant, lemon fondant and the chocolate clay and baked all the strawberry flavored cakes ... but he did the majority of the decorating.

So here is his first real attempt at decorating a cake.

unfortunately, I only got a couple shots and they are from basically the same angle.

The strawberry cake is covered in strawberry fondant, the base is covered in lemon fondant, the little boarder strawberries and the heads and turtle are chocolate clay as are the cobblestone, the windows, door and seeds are starbursts.

C&C are always welcomed and a great way to help my brother and I to improve.

Blessings!
Shade:)

This is so cute! Great job.
It's good that you have photos of it. My mom claims she made beautifully extravagant cakes for my birthday when I was young, but I must have been pretty young because I don't remember any of them! She said she should have waited until I was older and I told her she should have taken pictures!

omg, wow, I usually don't get into cake decorating, but this is amazing!  Brings back so many childhood memories.  I can almost smell the Strawberry Shortcake dolls, it looks so realistic!  I never would have guessed that this was someone's first try!

I just added a bit of candy flavoring to the fondant before I started to add the powdered sugar.  It took about ad extra 1/4 cup of sugar for 1/2 teaspoon of flavoring.
