i went to 4 craft stores today looking for the pens.
either all the clerks are daft or ...
well...
i am betting on the salesclerks being daft-
i ended up buying two brands of pen (despite the unhelpfulness of the clerks)-
and i thought id throw the names out there to see if i got the right thing.
Decocolor and Painters by Elmers.
there was also a sharpie brand that i did not buy.
but no where could i find a panit pen that described baking the item in your own oven to cure the piece-
nor could i see any info on whether or not the piece would be food safe or microwave or dishwasher safe.
If someone knows of a specific brand name-  or an online source to buy the pens-  and whether they are safe to eat off of-  that would be so cool.  i am totally psyched about doing this project and i already bought a stack of white dishes at the thrift store.
thanks-

Awesome! I'm about to go post my ceramic-pen creations too! I couldn't find nice plates like that though, so mine are mugs! Your drawings are so crisp and whimsical. =) I would totally love finding them under my toast!
