Hm.. I may try out a mini top hat (okay, I've made one before - but I'd use different techniques Cheesy) or a fascinator (I figure it mostly counts as a hat...),... though that's if time is friendly to me. I may wait until next month to get really into this! (Though I'll keep an eye on the thread Cheesy )

I'm going to try sewing a hat. I usually crochet hats but I have wanting to sew one for a long time.

I'm going to try something I sorta learned when I was 11-12 but never ever got the hang of: Knitting... I've admired all the lovely, warm and hand knitted caps, mittens and stuff that my knit-savvy friends whip up in just a few hours but hardly even dared looking at their current projects for fear that my mere gaze would be enough to mess with it somehow. The few times I've tried to knit something it always went "Hey, I'll make a scarf! Errr, let's say a wristwarmer then... No, make that a wobbly kinda coaster-like something..."

Buuut, that's history. I've armed myself with one of previously mentioned knit-savvy friends, who immediately told me I'd be knitting a bobble cap. Period. She's promised me it's easy. I'm not sure I belive her, but I'm eager to get started. So it'll be both knit, purl, bobbles and somehow making it a half circle kind of shape on top Wink It's definitely a new craft for me, who normally spends my hours fiddling with my beloved sewing machine! Already looked a yarn yesterday, but didn't find the right one so I'll try another shop tomorrow. A dark blue would be nice...

Thanks for the initiative, mermaidcafe. I think this must be one of the best resolutions I've had ever.

carilla - i know what you mean about knitting... it's definitely a craft form that seems to have projects that can get... downsized midproject Smiley  good luck though sticking to it... i'm glad to hear that you have someone helping you through it Smiley

Ah... those are some especially nice looking fascinators too! (And I'm not QUITE a student right now Wink I'm taking a year off while I apply for grad school [and work, write a novel, and travel!])

I'm knitting an earwarmer (a variant of one on Knitty) . First time doing cables and first time using a chart.  If I have time I might try my hand at a fascinator or two.

Is it ok if I join in the craft-a-long? I've never participated in one before but this seems like a really nifty idea. I'm slowly trying to fill my wardrobe with pieces entirely made or reconned by me Smiley. Also, if i can get in is it ok if I make a hat for my niece? I don't look so good in hats, but I think she'd look adorable with one Smiley

Stop being so damned positive. Staring at the sun only blinds some one. By only looking at the positive, you miss an entire beautiful world of shadows and colors. Don't be overly negative, be realistic. The world is so much more complex and beautiful that way.
