First of all, it is not technically finished....I still have to add shoulder armor that will connect the back and chest plates.
I made this armor for SCA (Society of Creative Anachronism) combat. [Think Fight Club, but with armor].
I made it out of HPDE, which is a very durable type of plastic.
While it is not as period accurate as steel or leather, it has many advantages as hidden armour.
EDIT: Whew! It has been a long time since I posted this! I gained 20+ pounds, married the photographer, and cut my hair. Anyways, here is what the armour looks like hidden

The riveting work looks great.  You did a great job fitting it to yourself.  Can't wait to see your finished kit!  What kingdom are you with?

Ah! Thank you! I actually had a leather cuirass similar to this, but wanted better protection. I am of the Shire of Vogleburg, Kingdom of Gleann Abhann. And you?

Great job! That looks very well done and definitely like it'll hold up in "battle". Also, your man is quite a looker, you lucky gal Wink I think my fiance would look great in garb, but he's not into that kind of stuff. I'll settle for a kilt though Wink

Very nice... oh, and the armor looks good too  Wink

I have a friend who makes his armor out of the same stuff, but his is a lot more segmented for mobility... how is your mobility with only the three sections?  I have to say I like the look of your better than his.

great job! Having watched some sca tournaments (and about to go to the local candlemas event) I can just imagine how many bruises that will save you from! Plus knowing NOTHING about how to make armor it looks rather complex. >.>

I can move quite well in it. My mobility is only hampered by the common curse shared amongst nearly all cuirasses: when sitting, the neckline rides up a bit. But I don't plan on fighting while seated upon a bench! ;p
Thank you for your compliment!

The design is a bastard cross between Roman 'Lorica Segmenta' armor and 'Charburg' syle (A mid to late Germanic type).
And the overlapping 'ribs' Absorb blows like some kind of awesome thing that absorbs blows really effectively whose name I cannot remember as of right now.

what a neat idea and thanks so much for the definition of SCA. I've been trying to figure it out for weeks.  I'm going to pass this on to my brother as he loves to try to make Armour and such out of inexpensive materials. He doesn't do SCA but we go to ren. faire every year and he likes to have something that looks close to authentic but isn't. Thrifty I guess. lol

Very cool. And your hair is teh win. Smiley

The SCA is a vast collective of things such as music, sewing, and wool working. The fighting portion just so happens to be what I am into. My fiancee does wool spinning etc, and light fighting (rapier).

Wow. I had forgotten this post. Haha. Well, here is what the kit looks like now, years later...kinda (both of these pics are dated and the kit has improved even more since then). I have modified the armour to fit better too.

Here is another pic of some of my kit.
I made the seax on the belt, the shield, the phrygian cap, and the green tunic.
