So I'm throwing an 80's prom party in april and I already have a bunch of cool ideas, but since you guys have always been such a great help before I thought you could give me a hand yet again. I'm starting to make the invitations and I thought it would be cool to have a "theme" song like in real life to put on the front. Maybe "Everybody Wang Chung Tonight" or "Simply Irresistable" or something like that. Any ideas?

Also, for decorations I'm doing the whole teal, silver and pink thing with streamers and ballooons and a disco ball. (As tacky and horribly 80's as possible)

Any ideas yall have would be loved! Thanks!

Maybe you could set up a nintendo (the original) for the guys to play, or just for fun?

Yeah so my jerk of a boyfriend is making me change it to just an 80's party. He said none of the guys are gonna wanna do this prom stuff. He's totally right but grrr....Prom is sooo cool. I'm still wearing an 80's prom dress.

The whole 80's party will actually be a lot easier I think. So instead of doing the pink and teal and silver, I'm gonna put neon everywhere.

The nintendo's a great idea too because my guy friends are video games nerds. Seriously, they love Mario and all that stuff.

My hubby and I had an 80's Party last year.  It was so much fun.  I was really impressed with the turnout.  Everyone was dressed ... even though the all kicked and screamed about it.

Here's a picture of the invitation.

The invitation is hard to read.
It says...
Dude
Like.. Oh..My..God!
You are invited to this totally bitchin' party!
We are going back in time 20 years.
Holy sh*t...Has it been that long?
This is an 80's costume party.
So bust out your old Whitesnake T-Shirt,
a pair of ripped Levi 501s,
and throw on that leather fringe jacket!
Come dressed as Michael J Fox, Mr T, or Cyndi Lauper,
or just cut the collar off an oversized hot pink T-Shirt
and wrap a neon green belt around your waist.
Ladies..Don't forget the Aqua Net!
If your hair fits through the door with ease,
we'll know you didn't try hard enough.
Guys...Start growing out your mullets and rattails.
For inspiration, turn on TBS and check out rad movies like
Weird Science, Fast Times, 16 Candles, Say Anything, Valley Girl,
or any totally gnarly John Hughes movie!
So Fire up your IrocZ, and cruise on over to our own little Culture Club and Rock the Casbah!
Feel free to sucker your friends into coming.
No 80's party would be complete without a few bad-ass party crashers!
This party will be like totally tubular to the max!

Here are a few random party pics.

We ripped out pictures of celebrities from old 80's magazines and hung them from the ceiling.  We had Atari games on the computer and a kareoke machine. All around the house were piles of PARTY FAVORS like, mini Rubics Cubes, Jelly Bracelets, and those neon Headband/Sunglasses.  I bought the favors from www.orientaltrading .com. I even made a life-size cardboard cut-out of Pres. Reagan.   Have fun with it.  There are a ton of ideas on the web too.

we had one too, a few years ago, and the best idea? A rubix cube cake.
Mine didn't turn out too well, but the gist of it is to stack a layer cake and make it into a kind of square. Then mark off sections (this was the hard part, I used some licorice) and make each section a different color with food colored icing.

Great Pics Carrie! Thanks for sharing!
The party's on Sat so I'm getting pretty anxious. I just bought a cute 80's hot pink prom dress and I got some of the docorations. My boss is lending me a strobe light and disco ball so that'll be great. I also have a lot of pink and black going on. (Streamers and balloons) I think I'm going to make a 16 Candles Cake all in pink.

Oh the funniest thing (not actually gonna do it though) is an idea my uncle had. When I asked him for his ideas he said the 80's was all about excess and that I should put rolls of $20's on tables and have some mirrors and razorblades laid out with powdered sugar. It's a hysterical idea, but I can imagine 2 bad things happening. 1- my idiot friends would actually snort the sugar and 2- I can picture the cops coming and having to explain the whole powdered sugar thing hahaha.

Anyway, If anyone has any last minute ideas they are always appreciated. Thanks!

That's not as bad as my friend RJ.....the other day at lunch,Amber had a bag of Cinnamon Toast Crunch so he took it from her, crushed it up REALLY good and snorted it! He's so stupid, but anyway......an 80's party sounds like so much fun! You have to make some kind of reference to Michael Jackson being cool on your invitations.

Carrie:I was born in 1988.....I'm such an '80's freak,I knew every reference on your invite
