Now, before you all think I'm totally insane, I want you to know that a friend commissioned me to make this little guy.  I like the results, but I in no way endorse hurting actual fuzzy bunnies.  Or unfuzzy ones.  Or any critters (or people) for that matter.

So, I started with a cute little beanie bunny my friend gave me.

He asked me to make it look like the bunny's head had been taken off, and it was all gory inside.  I wanted to make it look somewhat anatomically correct, so there is a spinal column, esophagus, and trachea, along with muscles.

The toughest part was finding the stitching along the neck, since the material was so thick and fuzzy.  I removed all the stitching, aside from that on the back part of the toy, so it had a sort of "flip-top" head.

I made a tight tube with burgundy upholstery fabric, and wrapped in off-white felt to make a spinal cord with marrow.  Then, I made a brown felt trachea and a pink felt esophagus.  I finished the latter two tubes with a whip stitch in red thread.

For the muscles, I stitched the three tubes together, and then I stitched red felt to the tubes.  I gathered and folded the red felt into a circle around the tubes, to fit in the neck holes.  I stitched the folds in place with red thread.

After making two of these muscles-and-tube pieces, I inserted them into the bunny, stitching them in place with white thread.

Sorry I don't have any procedural photos, but let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks for checking out my post.

It would be fun to put a little squirter inside for realistic spurts of gore and so forth, but perhaps that's too gross.

I love it!  You did a marvellous job on both the anatomy and the opening itself.  I'm not crazy about the squirter idea - too hard to maintain - bit this is fabulous all on its own!  It is a bit creepy but lots of folks like creepy.  Several months back I turned a couple of stuffies inside out and restuffed them - my kids now have "deadie bears" and they just love them.

Oh man, I clicked on to this thread because of the cute little bunny in the 'recent posts' bit of the homepage. Wasn't quite what I was expecting  :-(
Impressive detail, though, and you are clearly a good friend

Makes me a bit quesy.  I think it is even more distrubing since the original bunny was very cute.  Great job!

I'm not sure about the squirter idea, probably a bit over the line, not to mention just plain messy.  Maybe a ball of air or something inside that you could use to make the innards pulse a bit by squeezing....though the mechanics of said device are not coming to me right now...

Thank you for all the feedback.  I'm happy no one was too grossed out or dismayed.  I suppose you could also think of it as an anatomy lesson - you know?  Like those see-through people or something.  I mean, the bunnie's head does go back on, and then it looks perfectly healthy.  Smiley

This is really awesome. I think I might have to say that it is even better than the Monty Python Killer Rabbit stuffed animals I have seen. Very original!  Grin

That came to my mind as soon as I saw it and I though MONTY PYTHON.

You could name the bunny Monty.

This is the one of the most awesome things I have seen.  Cheesy I lived in a isolated part of the world.  I have always wonder if there were people out there like me. People who think the inside of stuff animals should look more like the insides of regular animals. Apparently on craftster I am not alone.

Wow, this is awesome! Great details. It makes me want to open it up and look inside. Cheesy
And I love how you can put the head back on so it looks all innocent. "So you thought it was just your everyday cute bunny? Well, look at THIS! *rips off head*"

I looked at this yesterday and loved the accuracy, as well as the combination of morbid and cute.  Last night, I had a dream about doing bunny surgery.  I can't help but think that your project inspired this.  Thanks for a disturbing dream, and for such an amazing project.

I love this. I think it's great without a squirter, for those times you just need a decapitated but unbloodied bunny around. Smiley
