I'm waiting on a sale to buy my batting (warm & natural).

I used 12 different fabrics from the Heather Ross Mendocino collection and Snow Kona Cotton.

I like the colors too!  And I like the way that the blocks are laid out.  I hope I'm not misinterpreting, but it seems like they aren't in a specific order, but they still look orderly.

Actually I put the blocks in order from darkest to lightest, numbered them 1-12.  And used Random.org sequence generator to come up with a list of random sequences (using the #'s 1-12), then laid out the blocks! lol

Then we (dh helped me!) laid out the blocks accordingly.  Once we had a base setup, we went through to try to make sure there weren't any duplicate blocks on each row.  I think I found one or two that we missed, but that was way easier than actually trying to figure out how to make it look random! lol

I'm totally in love with this fabric!  I'm using a dark plum fabric for the binding, and a gold fabric (both from this collection) for the backing.  I'm also working on a stuffed mermaid to go with it, since I'm making it for our baby girl that is due in May!

Adorable the color scheme and fabric choices.  And I love that you are making a 'baby' quilt, that isn't completely baby, and yet not out of place for an infant.  Congratulations!  You are totally making me laugh with the random number generator, was that yours or the dh's idea?  I've done things where you want to make them look random and it does take a LONG time, maybe I'll steal your idea  Smiley

That's really pretty.  Would be a perfect gift for my neice, who is turning 11 soon.  Too soon for me to try to make one, though . . .

I'll have to try something like this, though - I like the simplicity of the squares, but how clean and crisp it looks with all the sashing.  I don't think I can try to do stars or anything, but this is a nice elegant look. Smiley

Oh i love it!! I just made a quilt with a similar layout (here) with the squares set against a solid. I just love the way it shows off the fabric! I've been meaning to buy some of that mermaid fabric, my younger sister is 21 but still obsessed with mermaids, she might need a mermaid quilt!
