Bah! As far as I'm concerned the only way cornbread should be cut is into wedges like pie. Also, it must be prepared in a cast-iron skillet AND ONLY a cast-iron skillet.

HOWEVER, I like cornbread so much myself that I'm willing to forgive you.

thanks everyone for the kind words!  i find it so fascinating that everyone has such firm personal opinions on cornbread.  my hubby's mom always made cornbread in a cast iron skillet growing up.  my mom never made cornbread period, what a deprived child i was!!!!

His mother served it with pancake syrup and he swears that's the way they served it in school, but I know better. ...  Syrup on cornbread!  Have you ever heard of such silliness?  Smiley

In Savannah, GA, and likely other places in the region, biscuits are often eaten with cane syrup or barring that: corn syrup. We always had honey as a kid. I've never put syrup on mine. Seeing as I could drink maple syrup by the bottle if it were socially acceptable I expect I should like that.

Also, in regards to cast iron skillet vs. baking dish: I got such stares when I brought in my triangular wedges of leftover cornbread at work. I still can't figure out what's wrong with those people.

DID I MENTION I THINK THIS IS AWESOME? Because, this is TOTALLY not OFF TOPIC!
