for my high school senior art project i made a bunch of chihuly inspired pieces out of glass stringers. at that point, i had been making lampworking beads for about 4 years, and i wanted to try to do something else with my torch.  and this is a small sample of what came from that experiment.

this is the first one, it's a mini chandelier tied together with little wire.  it's a little messy looking, but for my first try, i'd say it worked pretty well.

this is three small wall mounted pieces. it was real tricky to put together, but i love them!

this one is sideways for some reason. but it's made out of a million little clear stringers, all stuck together with 2 part epoxy, but that was taking FOREVER so about 1/3 of it is done with hot glue. i love this one!

i hope you like them. i made them about 2 years ago and they just live in my house so it's fun to be able to show people!

These are really cool!  I like the first one the best, probably because it's so intricate.  I don't think it looks messy at all - it adds character!!

Way freaking cool. This reminds me of how badly I want to learn lampworking. I really like that last one!

these are really great!  ..and i'm definitely impressed that you're working with gass in high school.... that wouldn't have gone down at my high school  Roll Eyes

....i'm not sure where you live, but if you are ever in minneapolis you should check out the minneapolis institute of arts... in the lobby they have an ENORMOUS chihuly chandelier (like 20 ft wide or so!!) it's beautiful!

Those are beautiful - I especially like the second two as the glass seems finer than in the first one, although i love the colour choice in that one

i love chihuhly - and i love these!!!
  Grin

How big are they?

also, I lived in Akron, Ohio last year, and on the University of Akron campus in front of their Polymer Sciences building there is a chihuhly sculpture, but it's really different from his organic flowing works, like what you modeled yours from... it's more crystalized, and angular. It actually looks like a GIANT rock candy stick!

Definitely digging the mounted pieces... I like the contrast between the angular base and organic forms growing from them!
I can't even say enough about how cool and beautiful these are!

It's funny, I saw the thumbnail in the "Hot New Projects" and thought, "Did someone take a picture of a Chihuly?"  These are absolutely stunning, love the third one.  Would love to know how big they are.  Do you have a picture of one with something for scale? Beautiful work.

hi everyone! thanks for all the great comments!

i don't have a picture for scale, but they are all very small. the first one is about 5 inches tall, the second ones are 5.5 ish inches wide, and the last one is about 6 inches tall.
