What sorts of bad reviews were you hearing?  My craft of choice is crocheting, and I love love love my speed hooks.  I can't imagine what the negativity would be for the stix.

BTW, the scarf/shawl/headcovering/whatever-the-mood-strikes looks really neat!

What a brilliant idea, life-changing to say the least - to use a funky yarn and be able to see what you are doing!

I bought a pair of these 50 mm needles in the after-Christmas sale at a certain store in Berwick, Nova Scotia. But I had no idea what I was going to knit with them - or how - until now.
Isn't it great to come across this thread!

And I shall tell the friend I was with. She got herself a pair of them as well.
There is no noticeable brand that I remember (I will check and get back if there is one.) but for a price of 99 cents - AND on sale at 40% off ... I am not worried.

Happy New Year and happy knitting to all,
Janey

Jane what a steal! I hope you will have some great fun. I am having a ball.

About the reviews abssinth...I usually read Joann & amazon reviews and look for forums...but for the life of me I cannot remember which one, or even if both sites I mentioned had some people complaining about the needle...The people were mentioning it was just too hard to hold, consequently more difficult to knit..I assumed that was individual feel for the needle rather than a quality issue, you know some gals have arthritis, or tiny hands...
I had been waitting to get the 50 size needles since I got my 35 a couples years ago....I will tell you that "big bad girl" and I will have a load of fun. Now I have to hold the walllet and not go bankrupt buying yarn..hahha. Grin

I hope I helped a little. Let me know about your project...and thanks for letting me know that there is already a generic one in the market...you said Joann has the generic one?

Yes I saw them yesterday but dang, 99cents is a SWEET deal on these babies! BTW the ones I saw were GREY in color, but I think with how big they are if you are using any contrasting color it will be easy to see. I'm going to grab some and some yarn...

how much yarn do you need to have in order to make a scarf with stupid big needles llike that?  I'm wanting to make one,  and possibly just find myself some sticks of this size, intead of searching my small city to find them. (we have walmart.......yeah. .. that's it... and the fabric/ crafting section is really really bare all the time)

Hi Belladune~

I used some left over yarn...I would say it was about a little less than 1/2 skein of a regular Red Heart yarn. That is it. Walmart carry Red Heart for sure, and I bet some needles.
If I may make a suggestion...some gals are finding this great needles for very little money..maybe you can do a personal swap and get some for you! Cheesy

Great job!  What kind of stitch did you use?  Stockinette?  Garter?
