I am the only one in the chain fabric store I work in that loves the bright colors and graphic, modern designs.

Look at the line called Quilter's Pride, Christmas line, from JoAnn's. http://www.joann.com/search/_quilters%20pride%20christmas/

And I think it is great to give babies brighter, bolder colors and patterns as it helps to develop brains.

I don't have kids and I know this. Makes me wonder why people want to put their babies in pastels.

i know! one of the best things for newborns is a nice big black and white checkarboard print, which i think is super cute, but most people are gonna tell you its ugly, especially for a girl. sometimes i serioulsyu wanna murder whoever it was that decided babies need pastels

Some people are just stupid. It's sad but true.
My babies, when I have them, shall be put in bright colors, stripes, and other "loud" patterns.

This sounds like the beginnings of a great song. Cheesy

Lol! If you know someone who could write a song using it, tell them to have fun with that.

At a sewing class (loosely termed), my daughter was learning to sew and I was going only for the social, companion aspect.  I was showing my daughter how to lay out and cut out a pattern, the "teacher" someone who has sewn for years pulled me up in front of everyone telling me I had done one thing wrong.  She used her "superior" voice in an effort to make me feel small but my answer backfired on her, she was left slack jawed.  I told her that I was trained in industrial methods, the way I was doing was how professionals do it.  What did she pull me up on?  How I cut the placement marks on patterns, I simply nick them with the tips of scissors, she wanted the whole silly tab to be cut around.  Made no difference to the finished garment at all.

I always bit my tongue when she showed the others what to do, knowing that I could show better technique.

How to cut those marks is a matter of personal preference.  Snips are how the industry does it because it's faster, which is valid.  I prefer to cut around the tab because my vision is less than perfect and it makes a big, obvious mark, and cutting around it gives me more leeway if I need to let out the seam.  But doing it your way isn't "wrong" and she was out of line to call you out like that.

Because you did one small thing differently she called you out in front of everyone? Really? **facepalm**
I'm like Ashling: my vision isn't so great so I need the tabs but if just nicking it works for you, go for it!

I cut with just the snip too, but that's how my sewing teacher taught me. Though she's also studying couture. I've no idea if it was a "professional method" or just "faster and easier" that she picked up along the way.
