Then, when 6 different employees told him this thirty something year old man in nice clothes stole everytime he came in, our manager brushed us off and said "He has a job.  Why would he do that?  Go watch those kids"  Pointing at the nearest random young person.

What a moron.  Assuming the teenagers are stealing is one thing, but outright ignoring evidence other people are stealing is stupid, not to mention bad for business.  My work tells us that a thief can be anyone, no matter how they're dressed.  As far as "he has a job," our company has caught people who stole over $100,000 worth of merchandise from us and sold the stuff on ebay.  That was thier job.

I had tried to teach myself knitting last winter, failed, and now started crochet just this month, so I am currently at the 'make a giant square and unravel it' stage of projects, so my hobby lobby and $1 big lots yarn is sufficing for now.

i love me some big lots! Cheesy

There's nothing sexier than a man who can use a sewing machine!
(or is that just my personal kink showing?  Embarrassed)

No, I'd have to agree with you there Wink

I came to the conclusion recently that for me it's important that a guy be able to do *something* hands-on; whether that's bike-mechanicking, woodwork, or knitting, I don't care. I am the kind of person who likes to DO things, rather than HAVE things, so a guy who's only interested in the latest TV shows and the biggest plasma screen to watch them on... fail.

I'll agree with you on that one. My DH learned how to sew when I refused to sew covers for the ancient sailboat. They were funky shaped and I knew they would be a complete PITA... Since then he's taken to sewing his own stuff on his uniforms (USCG), repairing sleeping bags and all other types of good things!

I second the comment about crafty men.  It took me a long time to realize that that was what I needed in a partner.  Now my current man enjoys blacksmithing, leatherworking, legos (he uses them to make art!  He made a pac-man scene for his mom that is on her wall and a bowser v. mario for his brother!!), painting, polyclay and generally being a great artist!  We've spent hours together making polyclay sculptures and they have been some of the best of my life.

Glad I didn't start crafting till in my '50's. LOL, But in Joanns the other day the fabric cutter was older like me, and seemed to be totally disrespectful of my 30 year old friend and her daughter, who we were getting fabric for, so I did what I normally do, engage them. I asked the lady at check out if they were hiring, and she gave me an application. I may have to fill that out. I don't have a job now and I could be just as much a thief as anyone else. That sucks and I don't assume that from younsters. This place and my recent 'nephew' boarders has given me new insight into young people today.

Some people have weird ideas about the importance of age. It works in reverse- I look like a suburban soccer mom, and I've had some ubercool hipster types give me attitude, too. Among my closest friends are a 20-year-old former student and a 62-year-old colleague. I know people whose circle of friends is almost entirely people of the same age, same demographic, etc. How boring.

I had this happen at Best Buy the other day. I went in willing to spend $7-800 on a camera good enough to take decent etsy pictures. I waited there for a half hour while they helped all the old guys and ignored me. And I'm in my mid 30s!

i am a stickler for customer service (i have worked in retail on and off, and i always quit cos i cant handle the staff anymore, i heart customers)

i wouldnt wait 30 minutes for that, the manager would have already been called over. i complain more than the average customer cos i wont take being treated poorly by anyone (unless it seems like they are having a bad day in general, those i usually leave alone)

i actually didnt get a teaching job at michaels because the manager thought i was too young to be able to teach anything (which was bull, i brought in several projects and a plan for the class)
then 6 months later i got a call at random and got hired and the Event Coordinator (way more responsibility than a teacher)

i am guilty of judging people by their age though, but not immediately...every one starts with a clean slate..but when they screw up i usually attribute it to their age

I resemble that remark.
