This was not going to be throwed out but it was a great find I found at the Goodwill the other day for .50 and couldn't pass this up but now I don;t know what to do with it. Does anyone have any ideas? I used it as a cook book holder but wasn;t working for me. ANy other suggestions would be great. Thanks

It's funny that you said you tried to use it as a cookbook holder and it didn't work, because that's exactly what I envisioned it as.
I would alter it some first though, and not use it as is. First I would remove the curly cues on the inside, but not on the sides. I think some chain link fence snipers (I don't know the real name for this) would work nicely. Next, Turn it so that the bottom becomes the back. Turn the other curly cue at a 45 degree angle. This will hold your cookbook in. Place the thing on an easel, and add some chains with big beads attached to the ends to hold the pages open. Let me see if I can find a pic...
It would look a little like this one:
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41P1KQCJ2KL._SL500_AA280_.jpg
You could also use it mounted on the wall as a necklace or scarf rack.
Or put it on the bathroom counter and use the dividers for extra bars of soap, hand rolled up towels and washcloths.
I can also see it as a CD rack, but that's not very exciting.
You could also use it as a sort of trellis in a pot of ivy.
Keep us posted and let us know what you decide. It really is a great find.

that is funny that you found that picture because I have been wanting an easel for my books. I will try this idea. Thanks so much you just made my night. I;m ready to tear it down and get busy. Do you know how I would either glue it or piece the parts together?

Great find! I think it could make a fabulous shelf as long as it was not in a place where someone could hit their head as it would stick out a bit. It could hold small kitchen items. Also you could add "S" hooks for hanging things. It could also be used in the bathroom I think to hold wash clothes or something.
I'm sure you will find a good use for your find.

Well, the part of tearing it apart, I would think would be the most difficult. With the right tools, though it should be easy. I was thinking that you could either solder it or wire it to a purchased easel. This figures... find a $.50 item, and then spend $20 altering it to be what you could have paid $20 for. LOL! Let me see if I can find a suitable idea of a cheap easel...
I think Walmart has an easel similar to this for under $10. You could spray paint the entire piece afterward, so that everything matches.

Or this:
http://www.chinalite-china-stands.co.uk/images/CR008.JPG
Even cheaper. You could probably pick one up at Walmart or Hobby Lobby for a couple of dollars.

What about using it as some sort of mail sorter... or using it like a shelf for spices or something... you could turn it upside down too and use S hooks to hang some things... herbs or dried flowers...

I think it would make a good pot rack or hand cups from it if it was mounted upside down and has some cheep S hooks from the hardware store

If you hang it so the flat part faces out you can use it as a earring/jewlery holder. I have a basket that has a wire bottom set up like that and i hung it upside down (?) on my wall and use it to hang earrings on it.

Here's my suggestion....
If you flip it over, scroll side down you would have a shelf on top. By putting skinny dowel rods through he bottom of the scrolls, you could store ribbon. They would hang and should not rub up against the shelf. Just pull the amount of ribbon, and cut! You could store anything on a roll as long as it fits in between the scrolls.
I have a diplay stand that my local craft store was selling SUPER cheap because they were moving. I did the same type of thing but it is the reverse.
