Ok, this didn't take as long as I thought it would.  Hooray for double-stranding and big hooks!

(Don't mind Roopurt in the background there... I stole her bed to take this shot.  That's a queen-sized bed, by the way)

I'm kind of impressed with myself on this one.  I totally winged it from beginning to end.  I figured I'd have more colour options (and would finish faster... this is a present due mid-January) if I used two strands, but I'd never double-stranded with this yarn before.  I ended up using a 9mm hook.

I did 8 rounds of dc for each hex, then a round of sc in the border colour  Sewed them together, went around in dc in the border colour, then totally winged the blue.  *Totally*.  Really, I should have had a better plan.

A bit of a close up (this is clearly the best place on the board to place a city) :

Here are the first two hexes (ore and desert) with a pop can for scale:

Each hex measures about 14 inches side to side, and the whole blanket is a massive 7'9" from point to point!

If you want, you can see a few more pictures and info at my yarn blog.

Wow, the hexagons are big! At first, I thought that was a film roll instead of a soda can, haha

Mmm it looks so cozy

I too am totally upset that they are taking the servers down to fix things. Why can't they just let things stay broken? I don't care if I can't move due to lag or if quests are bugged. If I leave my room my mom may make me get a job.

Thanks!

In person it's pretty nifty, and quite cozy.  It'll be hard giving it up when my friend's birthday rolls around.  Maybe I should wrap it now and remove the temptation...

OH MY GOD
This might just be the most fabulous idea of 2009 so far.

And I know we're not that far into 2009.

But this is AWESOME!  My friends and I play this game obsessively.  Well done!

Thanks!  I already warned my friend that if his birthday present is really lame that means I kept his real present for myself.  heehee

mr.fantastic figures that when I make one for myself that I should do the 6 player board just for kicks.  I'll definitely use smaller hexes for that one!  Holy guacamole!
