Borrowing from this featured topic, I tried my hand at a yarn ball ornament.

I found this neat green twisted yarn for $1.69 a skein at Michaels and I really liked it because it reminded me of a green candy cane. I just used a small, plain, glass ball I already had and some bamboo skewers and large-holed wooden beads for the needles. Clearly, my wrapping is kinda messy but seeing as I'm actually not a knitter, I hope that's not some big faux pas or something to knitters. Wink

A friend of mine owns a Yarn and Fiber store in Gainesville and I'm sending it to her as a belated Christmas gift. I hope she likes it.

Thoughts welcome! Grin

What a great idea! I'm sure your friend will love it --especially since she love yarn. Brilliant! (Did you use a glue or something to keep it from unraveling? I would worry it would slip and unravel.)

Thanks everyone! Grin I just think it's such a cute idea for a knitter.

I started by gluing it down at the top, but the rest is just wrapped. Part of why I think it's so messy is I did a lot of cross-wrapping and such to ensure it felt "tight" in the wrapping and if it slid or moved or didn't feel steady on the ball, I adjusted before the next wrap. It seems pretty sturdy, albeit messy wrapping. Wink

Grreat idea.  I don't knit either, but I am sure your frind will love this.  Probably a new theme for her Christmas decorations in her store. Would be really great to do a store display with a tree full of these.
