I tried to get this done for my dad's second marriage in November, but it ended up being a combination wedding/Christmas present. I'm giving it to him and my stepmom today, I hope they like it!

It's a white linen tablecloth, embroidered with a deep blue floss. There's a simple lotus design in the middle:

And then 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 is embroidered around the edge of the tablecloth. I'm not Christian, but my father and stepmom are, so I wanted to honor that part of their lives. The text reads:

Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude.
Love does not demand its own way. Love is not irritable, and it keeps no record of when it has been wronged.
It is never glad about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out.
Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.

Some pictures of the writing:

Closeups of the stitching:

I mapped the words out on a piece of paper and wrote them with a water-soluble pen. I didn't end up stitching along where I wrote, and more made it up as I went along, but writing it was useful to make sure I got the spacing right. My handwriting changed a little bit over the course of the project you can see!

It's all done in chain stitch, and took FOREVER. I should have done a quicker stitch! But I love how it came out. I like that it's special and a lot of work went into it, but it's still a simple pattern and hopefully something they can use a lot.

Beautiful!

I love the idea of the text wrapped aruond the edge. Subtle, and simple and very nice!

Not only did you do a beautiful job on that tablecloth, but what a beautiful attitude you've shown toward your Dad and Stepmom.  So many non-Christians simply have no tolerance for loved ones who are Christians.  I love that you respect their choice of religion.  I'm sure that gift will be one they will treasure forever.

Thank you so much everyone! I gave it to my dad today (my stepmom couldn't come to visit) and he really loved it. It took awhile to convince him that it was made by hand, but I think it was a great success! Smiley
