My dear friend loves bird watching; her daughter just gave her a little “bird station” with heated bird bath and beautiful bird feeder in a shepherd’s hook.  So in spirit of bring the outdoor in, I put little birdies in the pillowcases to keep my dear friend company while she sleeps (in her new blue bed set given by the other daughter!).

Aw! Those are so sweet? Are they intended for sleeping on or just decoration? I ask because I was curious how the stitching would hold up with use since it's in the center of the pillow. It's a great effect!

Thank you Muddlepud.
The pillows are made for sleeping & decor. They are travel side pillows, and they serve as head support or as extra. I made the pillowcases out of 100% cotton fabric. My idea is that my friend can just turn the pillow around and sleep on the embroideless side  Grin. I used satin and steam stitches, and I am pretty sure they will hold up very well with use/wash. The trick is the tension of the tread while you stitch...I have some vintage stuff that the embroidery still ok after years of use  Smiley

These are mightily adorable. I am fascinated by the border as well, it is something I had never thought of before, a neat effect.

Wow, that is so good that I checked the title, because I thought, "this must be machine embroidery."  Those are lovely, and that's a lucky friend!  Smiley
