Does anyone know how to find out about craft shows in advance?  I'd like to start selling at some of the craft shows, but don't know HOW.  I've found a couple of online "listing services" that are bullsh**.  They insist you join before you can see a list of shows, then you have to pay money to get any information - and then the information is second hand or worse - and most of it is no good.  So you are paying them for gossip/hearsay/speculation.  I know there has to be a network for craft shows - some way that crafters find out about them in order to vend...  But HOW?

Since I'm just getting started in this area, I'm not interested in high fee, juried type fairs/shows - but I would like to be able to get my feet wet, and maybe network with other vendors, and get some ideas.

Anyone know how to go about doing this? Huh

Hi LadyFaire,

You can find craft show information through online directories, newspapers and by talking to crafters at venues, large and small. I did a search for "Virginia Arts & Craft Show Applications" and found the following links in the top 20 results:
http://www.fairfaxva.gov/SpecialEvents/VendorInformation.asp (City of Fairfax Food, Art & Craft Vendor Applications

http://www.thebizarrebazaar.com/html/exhibitor_christmas.htm (Richmond Bizarre Bazaar Exhibitor Information)

http://www.herndonfestival.net/ (Herndon Festival 2010 Exhibitor application)

http://www.craftproducers.com/exhibitors.php (2009 Art & Craft Festivals-East Coast)

http://www.juriedartservices.com/ (Smithsonian Craft Show, Northern Virginia Fine Arts Festival and others)
Not knowing where you live, it's a little Northern Virginia centric but still, I hope this helps with your research,

check out local schools, churches, and rotary/elk lodge type places.  they often have a fundraiser or two through the year that includes a bazaar or craft faire.  These are usually cheap to attend and if they've been going a while will have good turnout. (beware of a 1st annual anything.  these typically are under-advertised meaning you are seeing more vendors than customers.  Don't pay big bucks for this unless you know you by yourself can bring in enough customers to break even.

Then look in the local arts section of the paper and start getting contact info and approximate dates for things for next year.
