I'm so happy!  I made a filler square, and it turned out right (other than being kind of wavy around the edges).  It's the Dreamcatcher square from the 2008 CAL (my third-ever crochet block!):

what yarn is it?

It's some TLC Essentials I got at Joann's.  We have 4 dogs, and this will be washed alot so I opted for acrylic.

GatsbyGirl, I love your color choice, and I love your idea of joining them as you go! But, I'm worried about final placement, so I'm going to wait... I could be careful with my color selections, but I don't think I can manage that... color sense is not my strong suit...

SewHelpMe, the Dreamcatcher square is a fun and easy square and yours came out looking great!

silverfisch, I haven't had a single square come out to 12" (well, maybe one) in the three rounds of this CAL (even though I haven't finished a whole year in any of them, yet). I even use a bigger hook, and still come out smaller. For this round, I'm using the same hook for all of them and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they'll all be the same size (or close). I'll even them all up at the end if I need to...

SewHelpMe, the Dreamcatcher square looks great! I may do that one soon too

I think it would have been better for me to use a 6mm hook, craftADDchick, but I stuck with the 5mm one because in my city you can't find anything bigger than 5mm  Cry next time I'm in a bigger city, I must remember to get bigger ones!

Since my girls actually nap (knock on wood), I am going to start trying to work off my negative feedback.  Life got hectic with their early arrival.  I apologize for the inconveniences my flaking caused.

silverfisch, I have become a crochet hook addict... for some reason, I love to buy them... maybe because I like to have one for each project (no sharing of hooks allowed Wink ). I just bought a size Q hook... It's pretty big, so I don't know what I'll use it for, yet...

And, fochaux, your square looks great! Is that Simply Soft yarn?

Finished my first one! Yay!

Is it okay to modify the pattern slightly? I added an extra set of two rounds (one ch6 round and one ch1 round), to get it up to 12".

The purple yarn is I Love This Yarn! in Periwinkle, and the green is Simply Soft Brites in Limewire.
