I didn't know it was possible to make one's own mineral makeup. Totally cool, though--now I've got something to try next weekend!

Yay! My lady relatives and I had a great time making eye shadows and lip glosses/colors yesterday. Holy hell, after 4 hours we each had 20 eyeshadows and at least 5 lip colors each.

And I want to make more! I need to try some foundation, blush, bronzer, and finishing powder next.

Wow, I'll have to try that out someday. Where do you suggest getting supplies?

Just got back from my honeymoon! What a great time!

Here are two posts with some ideas on where you can get supplies...

If you have all the supplies to make eye shadow, why not make nail polish? From the Soap Queen - http://soap-queen.blogspot.com/2009/06/customized-nail-polish-recipe.html. Guess what I'm doing this weekend?

Ooh! Using one of those hardcore finishing coats like "Tough Cookie" or similar would make an AWESOME polish! I may just astound my cousin, who is beyond addicted (over 200 bottles collected in 3 months, seriously) with this discovery.

Thanks for sharing the places to get supplies. My absolute favorite for micas is Coastal Scents. Holy hell do they arrive fast, the shipping costs aren't bad, the selection rocks, and the pictures are true. I highly recommend them for samples or more.

My Pop micas came in and I've been having some great fun making even more eye shadows. I keep promising myself I'll work on blushes and foundations - I've made the bases, I just need to play with the colours! - but I can't resist my greens! (I can't photograph things well, so please imagine these are vibrant colours!)

This one's my new Saturday night thing! I have many variations on lime green, but this is my favourite so far. I like to wear this the yellow we're calling "(Everything's) A-OK".

Sub-Lime
2 scoops basic eye shadow base
3 scoops apple green pop mica
6 scoops lemon drop pop mica
1 scoop strawberry pop mica

Put all ingredients in a bag and squish together until you're happy with the colour. If you want a less green colour - and why would you? - you can reduce the apple green to 1 or 2 scoops.

A regular eye shadow container will require 3/4 tsp to 1 tsp of eye shadow, and the recipe above makes 12/32 - so triple the recipe to make a full container.

I've also been playing with chameleon micas - colour shifting ones - so I've had to come up with a new base so I don't overwhelm the colours. This one doesn't have has much staying power as the other one, so I recommend using a primer if you're going to wear eye shadow with this base. I had to take out the titanium dioxide because it changed the mica colours.

ALTERNATE EYE SHADOW BASE RECIPE
3 tbsp treated serecite mica
1 tsp micronospheres
1 small scoop calcium carbonate (the little white scoop, 1/32 tsp)

As a note, this is a great finishing powder if you want to suppress oils and add a little shine to your face without colour. You can add colours to it, but I haven't had time to work on the foundation colours yet, so you'd have to figure out your skin tone colour yourself!

I've been posting like a madwoman lately with more to come this week - here's the link to the MMU recipes on my blog...http://swiftcraftymonkey.blogspot.com/search/label/MMU.
