How cool are möbius strips?  SO COOL!  I had a bit less than a ball of this gorgeous dk weight yarn (merino/cashmere/silk) leftover from a hat I made my boyfriend for Christmas (the Ski Beanie hat from Son of S'n'B), and I wanted to make myself something from it.  See, he is Australian, and in February, I am moving back home to California, and we will have a whole ocean between us.  Sad  So I wanted us to each have something made from the same ball of yarn so that they'd be a set, even when we're far apart.

I really liked the Abby cowl from knitty, but I knew that a) I didn't have enough yarn for something that size, and that b) I'd never knitted in the round and didn't feel like starting just yet.

So I adapted the pattern to be knit flat, only did one set of the pattern, and then seamed it up in a möbius strip.  The yarn is a little heavier than the one called for in the Abby pattern, and I used US 9 (5.5 mm) needles so it's chunkier than the original.  So it's a cozy little neckwarmer perfect for underneath the collar of a coat!  Enjoy!

Use dk weight yarn (1 ball), US 9 (5.5 mm) needles, I-9 (5.5 mm) crochet hook, yarn needle, and 10 stitch markers.

Lay piece flat, then half-twist to join as a möbius strip.  Stitch up the back seam.  Using crochet hook, sc around edge until out of yarn (I was able to do 2 rnds).  Hide loose ends.

And the hat which is its partner (not a great pic, as I used my laptop camera for this one):

It means "place marker."  You slip the stitch marker onto the right needle.  I knit the first half using markers, and then I took them out and knit the rest by counting stitches.
