It's been about a 2 years since I last posted  Cry
But I'm back (in the country among other things)

Anyway, my father was given a huge grocery bag full of ties, and my father doesn't wear ties, so my mother (an incredibly creative woman who will declare to the grave she isn't) gave them to me saying "you could make something out of these, like a skirt or something"

Well I did... after about 3 years. I made a dress... just in time for the holidays!

The front: notice the tie over the shoulder as a strap  Grin

The back: notice the back of the tie on the other shoulder

A close up view
I opened all the ties up, and gutted them, as ties are stuffed with a thin batting or fabric to make them stiffer.

Me in the dress complete with goofy snow boots

What do you think?
I still have a number of ties left over I was thinking of making a purse, or a headband, or a boutonniere, or something... I certainly have plenty of ties to play with!
Any ideas?

OOH, so cute!  I think a purse or messenger bag out of the leftover ties would be awesome.

That is adorable!
Not so sure about the boots though  Grin

I can see that dress with a shoe like this http://www.stemsashoeboutique.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/Coventry.jpg

A very sexy feminine version of a men's oxford!

I would totally want to put on my high-heeled oxfords and twirl around the house all day in that!
It might look good with a crisp white shirt over/ under it if you get cold, too.
Good job!

Cool. i think you should do both a head band and handbag. you could use them to accesorize a plain white button up and black pencil skirt.  sexy office vibe.

It turned out awesome and it looks very swingy and like it would be fun to dance in.  I love how you used the one tie on the shoulders as the straps.

A matching purse would be great and maybe even cover a pair of old heels with strips of ties.  If you had enough, a cape would be cute also.
