I'm not happy, I'm cheerful. There's a difference.

I have also had this before with club crackers and sliced almonds on top but never with chocolate.

I just made some and it is fantastic. I have had some stale saltines I didn't want to throw away ::because I am crazy:: and this was great!

Margarine will work- you just need to boil it a little bit longer to get more of the water out. This stuff is really good, but I've never put it in the oven before, I just boil the sugar mixture to 300 degrees and then pour over the crackers and let it set. Yum- I've got some cooling on the stove right now!

When I first saw that recipe I was thinking "Ok... crackers? That can't taste good.  Huh" But after reading everybody's responses I decided to try it. I picked up the supplies at Wal-Mart and my Mom thought it would taste horrible, too... haha. We just didn't think saltine crackers could work in a dessert.  Tongue

I made it... and I just tried it. It is freakin' yummy!  Grin

I'll be making this every Christmas from now on. ^_^

I made toffee just this morning for gifts, too! Unemployment plus a new sense of baking enjoyment plus Michael's coupon equals cheap gift goodie baskets with homemade fudge, toffee, bread baked from scratch, and--my newfound love--roasted garlic butter.

this exactly what I needed to round out my gifts! Every year I make candied orange peel... and now it looks like I make christmas crack too!  Grin

That looks yummy! I didn't "get anything" for my coworkers this year (new job) so I might need to do some make-up impressing after Xmas. Thanks for the tip! Looks yummy.
