I make this all the time!  I call it "Crack Up."  Its really easy to make vegan too, you can just substitute the butter for some Earth Balance spread.

I adore this stuff.  Graham crackers work too.

It can also be made without the crackers but that makes it pretty hard.  My teeth don't like it.

I LOVE to use tiny leftover pieces in oatmeal cookies.

to the person who asked, I always used margarine to make mine and it turns out fine every time.... just make sure it isn't light of course.

I just made some on Friday, however I use graham crackers and don't use the chocolate (although now I'll have to try it) and use sliced almonds instead of pecans, you're right though, it is VERY addictive.

Thanks for the reply gals. I live in Canada, so butter is about $5 a lb right now!! I can buy 3 lbs of margarine for $2! I think I will try marg first, and if it doesn't set up right, I'll try and remember to come back and mention so!!

this stuff ROCKS! I make mine with the super-cheap 48% vegetable oil spread (the "fake" margarine that comes in a big tub for like a dollar) and have never had a problem with getting it to set. The spread does make a much stronger "butter" flavor, which my family thinks makes it even better, but you may not like as much.
It's also absolutely delicious if you use cinnamon chips in place of the chocolate ones. It would probably be really good with butterscotch chips too. Hmm, I may have to make some today. Just to test the good-butterscotch theory, of course... Grin

My 5 yr old LOVES Paula Dean, the women on the Food Network, and she made something like this and my DD has been asking for it since, but I wasn't sure on the receipe. Thanks so much! I can whip some up today for our family get together on Wed!
