I made it!!! and burned my hand wicked bad that caramel is HOT! I also had problems getting the chips melted directly onto the crackers and caramel so I just popped it back into the oven for a few moments. I put pecans and chopped almonds on top of milk chocolate(that's what I had on hand) and drizzled dark chocolate on top of the nuts as a "pretty" glue

I tried making these today and I messed up. D;
The first time I used the wrong size pan. I picked something that was waaaay too big so the mixture didn't spread out as well. It is good, but very ugly. I also used dark brown sugar which I had let sit and simmer for while.

The second time I used the right size pan. I had light brown sugar and tried to stick closer to the recipe, so I boiled it for what I thought was 3 minutes, poured it, and baked it. It looked fantaaaastic, especially after I did the chocolate and put some crushed candy canes on top.
Unfortunately, the sugar mixture didn't set. It was a gooey buttery mess. Very ickky. I'm assuming that I didn't let it heat up enough, but I'm not sure.

I'm going to try one last time tomorrow with dark brown sugar, the right pan, and lots of heating. Hopefully it'll work this time. D;

If anyone has any idea about what I did wrong, I'd really really appreciate it!!

Bummer! Hope it works out for you this time! We used a pan that was a little too big but just put extra crackers down so that it was still totally full. We probably boiled the sugar part a little longer and baked it longer than it called for and it didn't seem to hurt it. Candy canes on it sounds yummy! I really don't think it would matter if it's light brown or dark brown sugar, to me they're pretty interchangable.

I've thanked you once before for this recipe, but I wanted to thank you again.  My 15 year old daughter made these totally on her own for gifts for her friends last night.

She put sprinkles on top of the chocolate. She bagged them in christmas-y baggies and they look so festive!

Money is tight this year and this was the perfect gift!  thanks again!

I made these this evening, using graham crackers instead of saltines.  They're a little sweet for me, but my bf's already eaten half of the tray.   Grin

Thanks to jennie for posting these!

A lot of mine didn't harden either. I used light brown sugar and the pan was fine... hrm... I guess I need to let it boil for longer and/or cook in the oven for longer?
