This past semester I took a beginning fibers class, and one of the first projects we did was felt.  It was a really open assignment--the final product had to show "transformation" in at least 3 ways in at least 3 steps.  I got really interested in molds and petri dishes, so i took a little of that into this project (molds actually became an underlying theme for most of the projects i did in that class).

Anyway..here's the end result:

This is quite unique! I definitely have a new perspective on felt after witnessing a creation like this. I'm glad you took a closeup on some of the details as well, as it definitely shows how much work you must have put in.

The use of color is striking. I like how it mimics nature in its growth pattern. Bravo!

Your "mold" came out really beautiful... I'm curious is it installed in the actual gallery? like on the wall? or is it in a box of some sort that you built? Great job...

thank you!

in the pictures it's displayed in the corner of a critique room at my studio (basically a big empty white room with a ton of lights), so it's a good sized piece--each individual circle is about 3 or 4 inches across.  it's hung on the wall with velcro that i sewed onto the back of the main piece, and the smaller gauzier pieces are just placed or hung with double sided tape.

Felt is a great medium to represent mould.
It's all fuzzy and organic.
a lovely project.

Holy Crap. i love this. I love how the fuzz of moldy growth is so obvious. and the little details with the pennies and embroidery are so sick. kudos on the finished piece.
