I found an apron in big red and white checked gingham at the antiques mall http://bethgem.blogspot.com/2008/08/vintage-checked-apron.html, surely a 4H or sewing class project, from the looks of it. I took a pattern from it, and here's one that's finished!

Vintage aprons are easy to copy.

I made the pocket a little less geometric.

And used pretty fabric.

I'm really happy with how this turned out. I'll be making a few more, so I'll post them here when they're done.

I'd like to hear any comments or questions. Thanks for looking!

Lovely!! Your interpretation of the original is really beautiful! The pocket shape is a gorgeous, unique touch.

I was on a huge vintage apron kick this summer which culminated in a ill-proportioned birthday gift for my friend (top half fits an adult human, bottom half fits a small child--oops!). SO it scared me off of full-length aprons for awhile but this is something I want to try!!

My question (because I obviously am no measuring-queen) is generally what is the width at the top of the skirt compared to the length of the ties?  And approximate pocket size?

Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for the kind comments.

justaddcats, the waistband is appx 19", the ties are each appx 27", and the pocket, oh, I guess 6" or 7" wide x high? I didn't measure that one!
