Bowler & Hippie Hats for the MIL & SIL

So I made some xmas stocking stuffers for my mother in law and sister in law.
This is the "Bowler Hat" I made for the MIL. The ribbon is some bargain wired grossgrain from Michael's.





This is the "Hippie Hat" I made for the SIL. There are matching lace-up arm warmers which will be posted in the knitting area of this site.





I didn't use any patterns because I like challenges and making shit up as I go.

Cute! I really love the bowler hat. Did you happen to take notes on what you did? I would love a pattern for that!

Hey thanks! Sadly, I didn't take notes but basically the bowler started out as a beanie of sorts in a really chunky yarn. I think it started to take a "hat" shape instead of the typical beanie shape because I did increases in the first five rows instead of a spiral down and it's all done with hdc making increases every four or five stitches in each row til the brim. For the brim I continued with the hdc stitches but doing increases every three stitches until the last two rows where I used sc to force it to keep it's curl.
