I've been playing around with new ways of using cross stitch.  I got the idea to make buttons a few days ago and created these:

Monogrammed buttons.  I stitched these on linen.

Little cupcakes!

These are my favorite!  Little flames. Smiley

These are so much fun and a good "instant gratification" type of project.  I did the cupcakes and flames free-handed.

Cool! I have a book that shows buttons like these hooked together to make a braclet.

These are great - the cupcakes are my favorites!  You could replace buttons from an old shirt or jacket with them - I changed the buttons on my winter coat with something with a bit of sparkle and I have a new appreciation for an old standby.

You can get the supplies at a fabric store.  I went to Hancock Fabrics for mine.  The brand is Dritz and they usually come in several different sizes, from teeny tiny to huge.  Each pack comes with both the front and back.

Thanks everyone for the comments!

That is a terrific idea!
Might have to have a little play with that concept myself.

Cuppie cakes! Those are so adorable. I've seen pin-on buttons with cross stitch, but not buttons like these. Think of the possibilities! They would be great on children's clothes, but I secretly want to keep them for myself.
