I am a knewb, and I am trying to get the hang of the joining of new yarn to make a stripe.
When I tried it the first time, I went from having 25 stitches on my right needle to having 33+.
It may be the second yarn I'm using, as it is slightly different than the main color.

Any tips for making sure that you keep the right number of stitches when working with two different colors?

At first, I had to make sure to keep counting my stitches. If the amount goes up, you will know there's something wrong. The type of yarn you're using shouldn't change the amount of stitches you have. Good luck!
