i've heard mention of a recycle shop on 175 north harvard street in allston that has recycleable stuff for sale (furniture, office stuff, etc). the only info i can find online says they are open every thursday from 11-2pm, and that they are part of harvard university. does anyone know exactly what this place is? anyone been there?

i've never been, but i thought the stuff was free? they used to post on craigslist every week a sample of what they would have.  it was usually desks, lockers, typical dorm furniture.

They post monthly to the greater boston reuse mailing list.  http://www.aq.org/lists/listinfo/greaterboston-reuse.

Harvard gives stuff away so they don't have to pay to have it hauled as trash.  Here's a blurb from the last email I got from them.  The whole thing is pretty long--There's a lot of other info on campus recycling, squirrel sightings and other random stuff, but here's the important stuff:

FREE SURPLUS FURNITURE

... and other items!  If you are interested in seeing any of the items now
available, come to our Recycling and Surplus Center at 175 North Harvard
Street in Allston any Thursday from 11 to 2 PM.  A street map showing our
location is here:   <
<http://makeashorterlink.com/?J3AA250B3>http://makeashorterlink.com/?J3AA250B3
>  Let us know if you need a more detailed map.  Please respect our
neighbors' need to maintain safe traffic flow around the Recycling and
Surplus Center, and park only at a striped space!  Everything is free,
first-come, first-served, and must be removed by 2 PM Thursday as we cannot
hold anything.  We open early for schools and other non-profits!

A PARTIAL SAMPLING of the items available as of 3-1-05:

office DESKS (12)

4-drawer vertical FILE CABINETS (5),

(2) KODAK EKTAGRAPHIC IIIA slide projectors with (1) carousel tray

Panasonic RR-930 MICROCASSETTE TRANSCRIPTION machine with foot controller
and headset

Mosler STEEL SAFE-style walk-through pedestrian door, 2" thick, known
combination and key, 34" x 79" (email us to set up appointment to see it)

HDPE flexible slit tube, 2" diameter, 50' long

Swivel chairs (4)

Desktop file rack for holding files upright (6) and many other paper
organizing items.

As always, we have concrete blocks, wooden pallets, electrical hardware and
many other items coming in all the time!

Thanks for reducing, reusing and recycling!
