12/16/08 - New Feature - You can now mark images as "mature"

Hello all,

From now on, if you post an image that you think might be offensive to some people, you can wrap it in the tags:

Code:

[matureimg][/matureimg]

Rather than the normal tags:

Code:

[img][/img]

(There's also a button for these tags which looks like the normal img button but with a red X on it.)

This is what will happen if you do this:

GUESTS (people who are not logged in) will see this icon and explanation:


MEMBERS (people who are logged in) will see the "mature" image by default but you can go to your Profile and go the Look and Layout section and change this setting if you'd like mature images to be blocked.

I want to make it really clear that we don't allow outright pornography, hate, racism, etc of any kind. And we very rarely get anyone posting anything like that. What this feature is for is the occasional project image with swear words, hanky-panky-themed (but not pornographic) images, etc.

We also don't want anyone to think that just because we mark an image as mature, that we personally are offended by it. We'll be as liberal as we possibly can and only mark images which are the type that we tend to get some complaints about.

We want Craftster to remain a place where edgy (but tasteful) content has a home.

No worries! I had a feeling it would be hard to find at the end of the row but I worried that if I put it right next to the regular IMG button, new people would get a funny idea about Craftster.

Quick Question: if we set our settings to modest, does that mean the only way to see mature pics to to change the settings, or is there a view this image option. 

Just curious, as I love the idea of this option, especially for hot new topics, but there are sometimes more mature projects that I am interested in.

If you choose not to see mature images than you see a special icon wherever there's a mature image and you have to click the special icon to see it. So you can easily see it but you have to choose to click the icon to see it.

i don't understand, does this mean we wont be able to see any kinkyish pics unless we've got our settings changed? or does it show the mature content image and then we click something to show the real image? i'm sorry but i'm quite rubbish at this sort of stuff.

i would also like to say that the little spool of thread is quite possibly the cutest thing i have ever seen.

We have thought about that a bit over the years but it didn't really seem to make sense. In general we find it works out best to group crafts by "technique."

Aye, I'm still seeing many pictures that I think fall under this feature, that aren't marked. Can we point moderators to them? Or ... what? Just wait for people to start using this feature?  (it's actually become much more annoying to me now that there are project thumbnails in the lists)

As a moderator, I think that you should report things that are not marked as mature.  However, we may not end up marking that as mature.  We really consider this on a case by case basis.  For instance, if someone made a ceramic mug shaped like a boob and you are supposed to drink out of the nipple (yeah, my dad has one from 24 years ago), it will be marked mature because it is of a sexual nature.  If it is, say, a mermaid that is sitting there and happens to not be wearing a seashell bra, it would most likely NOT be marked as mature because it is of an artistic and non-sexual nature.  But, if it was a sculpture of 2 merpeople (or humans) having sex, I would mark it. 

But yeah, report them.  Even old ones.  It is usually a quick fix that we can do in a few seconds.

I just posted a mature picture. This is what I was wondering: Does it show the picture or the warning in the little front page picture for guests? Also, should I feel bad for the Craftsters who may not have their options set to block it on accident or because they don't know about it? I'm having this weird anxiety about it for some reason.

This is a really awesome example. There are so many great sentences in one paragraph. It made me laugh pretty hard and informed me. I hope I come across a two mermaid boogie fest posted on here one day, right underneath a nipple mug post.
