Hi, I am working on the madlad hat from Punk Knits, I have had to alter the pattern so that instead of 21 inches around it would be 26 inches around. I am about to start working on the crown now, but am not sure if the pattern needs to be altered for that part or not.

The Crown Pattern-
rnd 16: *k2, k2tog, k2, p1 repeat from * around
rnd 17: *k5, p1; repeat from * around
rnd 18: *k2 k2tog, k1, p1 repeat from * around
rnd 19: *k4, p1  repeat from * around
rnd 20: *k1, k2tog, k1, p1, repeat from * around
rnd 21:  *k3, p1:repeat from * around
rnd 22:   *k1, k2tog, p1; repeat from * around
rnd 23:    *k2, p1; repeat from * around
rnd 24:    *k2tog, p1; repeat from * around

If you're working with a multiple of 7 stitches, you should be able to follow the pattern as-is.  You'll just do fewer repeats per row than the original pattern intended.

From what you said in your original post, I think if you follow the rest of the pattern as it's written, it should work out just fine.  I've never made this pattern before, so I can't give you a definite answer, though.  And I'm not sure about the brim.  You may need to shorten the width a bit to get it to work with your shorter cast-on length.
