shs, those are really really nice. I was thinking of sewing my next one like that. I was thinking velcro, but, you're right, it would make it more difficult. Thanks a bunch for the tips.

oh how i love it! i have a bunch of those old books from when my mom was in university...i wonder if i can just rip out the pages? what did you use as the siding stuff?

the sides are just fabric. you leave the cover with the spine intact - i recommend reinforcing the spine before you put the lining in, especially in these old books. the tutorial link that was given earlier in this thread is almost identical to how i go about it.

i've been making these for awhile now and i find that the reader's digest condensed books are a great size. they are just big enough to hold the essentials and the spine is wide enough, plus they have cool fabric covers that you can dress up or not as you see fit.


Plus, it's not a waste of a good book! ;-)

here's mine! i kind of used how phunkorama said to make it, and kind of just made up the rest. i love it and can't wait to make more!











extremely blurry picture of me modeling the purse.

the colors of the fabric don't really match the book, but i love it anyway!
