Oh Smart girl in the house.

I made a book bag out but I hate it! I will post the pic!

I haven't used it yet. I Reeks of E6000 and it has glue marks and it holds nothing (My Cell phone keeps falling out!)

Jaime

Edited to add Yucky pics

WOw in the pics it seems big and the sides aren't too puffy but in reality the books spine is barely an inch wide.

So my Tip would be Look for a book that is wide enough to hold your stuff and is cool looking!

That looks really cool... But, yeah, I guess I can see how things could fall out of it. I guess you just need firmer sides and maybe some velcro, to keep it closed? Nothing has fallen out of mine yet, so, I think it's the sides. But otherwise, that's pretty awesome.

By the way, what do the front and back of the book say?

(Edit: Also, I'm Phunkorama, just at my friend's house... I didn't realize she was logged in when I posted this comment Smiley)

It says
Front: "You can take the girl out of Flushing..."

Back: "...But you can't take the Fushing out of the girl"

The book is called Enter Whining

Yeah, I kinda got frusterated half way thru it cause I think the Fumes of the E6000 are taking over my brain!!! Or Well it is still cute. But not a good School or Disneyland bag!!

Thanks, Jaime

It is still really cute.

And I just used a LOT of hot glue. So it smells of... not too much. Nothing unpleasant, at least. And definitely no fumes! It's working pretty well actually, except i started running out towards the end, so one part is sloooowly detaching itself from the rest. MORE GLUE!  Angry  MUST REINFORCE!

And, AH! Disneyland!

So my Tip would be Look for a book that is wide enough to hold your stuff and is cool looking!

i've been making these for awhile now and i find that the reader's digest condensed books are a great size. they are just big enough to hold the essentials and the spine is wide enough, plus they have cool fabric covers that you can dress up or not as you see fit.

i use buttons and hair elastic to close them or sometimes satin ribbon ties - that way if you stuff a little too much in you can still close it (if you use velcros you are limited to the exact width of the book in order to get it closed) and nothing falls out (the elastic keeps it tight against your stuff).

i LOVE the cover of that drescher book tho. too bad it isnt bigger. maybe you could change the handle and just use it as an oversized wallet? it's too awesome not to do something with. Grin

shs:  I love your book bags, and your lining looks awesome.  How did you get it to look so good?  Did you hot glue it as well?  Thanks!  -slick

i stitch the top of the side pieces together (wrong sides facing) and then fold it over and iron so it's smooth. then i stitchwitch the edges of the big lining under so there is no visible stitching on that (you could do it with a machine or by hand - i just like the look of no stitches). then i fold and iron the edges of the side pieces under and attach to the big lining piece. then i hot glue the whole thing into the book. i also reinforce the spine and do all the button, elastic, ribbon, decoration, etc. first so that when you put the lining in it covers all the messy stuff.
