Hi all. I'm a new knitter (well, actually been knitting for years and years, doing nothing but scarves in garter stitch and I just taught myself to purl and decrease and all that good stuff) and I'm making this sweater in Tweedle Dee http://www.modadea.com/patterns/LM0292.htm for my first project. I scanned before I began and didn't see any mention of use of the circular needle they called for, didn't see it and now that I'm near the last sleeve and almost done, I'm wondering why they called for it. Is it because you can do the sweater on straight OR circular needles, or am I completely off the mark somewhere? Help for the newbie. Thanks!!! Merry Holidays!

I'm guessing that they list the circular mostly for the larger sizes where it would be difficult to get all the stitches onto a straight needle, particularly if you only have shorter straights.

In the pattern note they are just suggesting you change to the circular needles when you feel you need to for comfort.  Dito what was posted above.  The bright side is that now you own a pair of circular needles and you can play with them...leg warmers without seams, arm socks, socks for your feet...knitting in the round it the next adventure of you journey! Cheesy

Sometimes I use circular needles if I don't have the right double points or straight needles.

Freedom!

Ha! Well, I've been scrunching them all on a straight--they all fit, but barely! But, this is my first knitting adventure beyond a scarf, and it's turning out well, so I'll know better next time! Thanks everyone!  Grin
