yay!! this is exactly what i had no idea i was looking for! this is the absolute perfect gift for my grandma (who doesn't really want much) and for my mom (who has everything), both bird lovers. i am 100% doing this very very soon. i am so shocked, your first 2 photos looked so professional. i thought the bird was fake Cheesy p.s. this is perfect for my lack of funds and promise to ONLY do thrifted treasures and homemade gifts. i am so excited. you made my day.

Oh thanks so very much for that great tutorial! I can't wait to make this for my step-mom, she will absolutely love it. One question though- where would I get a vine ball?

These are really beautiful. I'm presuming the birds will just leave the plastic berries alone? Why not when there's DELICIOUS FAT to eat below it!  Grin

I'm curious too as to where you got the vine ball, what a great gift though! I think I'll make some of these after Christmas when it really starts getting cold. Maybe Pier 1 for the vine balls?

Well I'm up in Canada, so I got them at Canadian Tire in the Christmas decoration aisle. I have no idea what kind of stores are in the states...do you have a Michael's? Pier One maybe? Dollar stores? They should be in any craft store because I have seen them used for wedding decorations too.

I just bought the stuff to make 2 of these.  I'll post a pic when I'm done.

What size vine ball did you use.  I had trouble deciding between the 4 inch and the 6 inch.  I went with the 6 inch, but may have to go get more suet.

I looked in Micheal's today.  I found the vine balls, but they had too much vine.  There would be no way to fill them and no way for the birds to eat it.  I'll have to check elsewhere.
